Program Description

Massage Therapy provides comprehensive training in anatomy, physiology and Swedish massage and incorporates courses in hydrotherapy, aromatherapy, Florida massage law, ethical procedures and business practices.

Massage Therapy is a 624 hour, six-month program of study. The Massage Therapy program of study can be completed either in six-months, 27.50 hours per week, which is full time, or can be completed in eight months, by completing 22 hours a week, which is three quarter time. Tuition fee for this course of study is $9,000.00.

 

 

Program Objectives

To motivate the students to become qualified Massage Therapists, capable of passing the national certification examination, offered by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB), which currently serves as Florida’s state exam. Upon passing the state exam, the graduates may seek employment as entry-level Licensed Massage Therapists. The 624-hour program has more intensive in-depth training in additional areas, i.e. Aromatherapy (which is considered the wave of the future), Neuro-muscular, Reflexology, Nutritional Health Management, and more in-depth good business practice. 

Most state-wide, and out of state schools, offer a 624 hour or more program, and the hours are expected to increase over the years. 

The program of study at the Academy of Palm Beach is designed to prepare students to take the Florida state licensing examination. This course offers an excellent foundation for the student to become a well-trained professional massage therapist; and, permits the student to further their education in the field of holistic health care. 

The cost of two set of uniforms and the English textbooks are included within tuition. Any other textbook format (for example), Spanish version, the difference in cost will be the responsibility of the student. An Oakworks Aurora massage table will be issued upon receipt of the Massage licensure number issued by the State of Florida.

The 624-hour program qualifies for Government Financial Aid, to those who qualify. 

Florida Board of Massage, requires 24 hours of continuing education every two years to qualify to renew your Massage Therapy License. The Academy also offers continuing education courses approved by the Florida Board of Massage, and licensed by the Commission for Independent Education, Department of Education, Tallahassee, Florida 32301. The Academy is a Continuing Education Provider for: National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB 038485-00) and education provider for Florida Board of Cosmetology (AHAMF-014).

The Higher Education Act of 1965 (HEA), as revised by the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (HEOA), includes several disclosure and reporting requirements. All post-secondary schools that offer programs of study that lead to "gainful employment" must present to prospective students the following information:

1. The U.S. Department of Labor's Standard Occupational Classification (website) SOC (Standard Occupational Classification) code for the Massage Therapy course is  #31-9011.00 for the "gainful employment" program.
2. The Massage Therapy CIP (Classification of Instructional Programs) code is 51.3501.
3. On-time graduation rates for students finishing the Massage Therapy during the most recent award year (2010-11) are 37 of 49 or 75.51%. Meaning that 75.51% of the students who finished the program during the last award year graduated "on-time." This is determined as sustaining at least 90% attendance during the program. The other students finished the program and graduated after this time frame.
4. The Academy is required to include graduation and employment rates each year to our accrediting commission. The information reported during the most current annual report (10-11) were 75.51% for graduation and 46.94% for employment. Meaning that 80% of the students enrolling in the Massage Therapy Program successfully finished all graduation requirements inside 150% of the normal time to finish. The employment rate indicates that 75.51% of the graduates achieved employment inside the cosmetology industry within a few months of graduating.
5. The debt for the median Title IV loan during the 10/11 award year was $5,709.00 for students graduating from the Massage Therapy Program. The school does not offer or participate in any private student loan programs.
